These are uncertain times. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, we were forced to close our doors  for the safety of all. On May 28th, Governor Lujan Grisham extended the ban on mass gatherings. While we’re saddened that we cannot open our doors, the safety of human life is without measure.

The El Zocalo Event and Visitor center remains closed to the public but staff remains onsite to answer calls and inquiries, Monday through Friday from 8AM to 5PM. Those wanting to tour the facility have the choice of a virtual tour, where a staff member will walk you through the facility, or an in-person tour by appointment only. Site tours can consist of no more than 5 people and all guests must be masked. Hand sanitizer and masks will be provided for those without face coverings.  Wishing you and your families safety, calm and good health.  — The Staff at El Zocalo

Welcome to El Zocalo

More than 135 years ago, nuns walked the halls of El Zócalo (The meeting place) when it was first constructed in 1874. The convent was a gathering place where people in Bernalillo came to meet, learn, and exchange ideas. El Zócalo is truly a meeting place of historic proportions—a refurbished 135-year-old convent with up-to-date amenities and steeped in history.

Almost 2,400 square feet of meeting space embraced in thick adobe walls and brick floors, as well as outdoor and indoor spaces to meet event space needs. The convent walls nestle an interior courtyard, with fountains and grassy areas and the sweeping views of the Sandia’s, provides a stunning focal point for any wedding. With friendly staff, easy planning, and elegant scenery, El Zócalo Plaza and Event Center is a great place for any party or get together. With its thick adobe walls and brick floors warmly refurbished, the 1874 convent is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The courtyard outside, with its fountains and grassy areas, provides a focal point for the building. Conveniently located between Santa Fe and Albuquerque, we invite you to come and explore the history, beauty and tradition of our beloved El Zocalo. Book a tour today and discover why El Zocalo is your perfect venue for weddings, parties and events!
