Update: 5/27/2022: Forest-wide closures of Santa Fe National Forest and Cibola National Forest are still in effect due to the extreme fire danger, even over the holiday weekend. Please be aware, anybody found violating the closure will be subject to a fine of not more than $5000 per individual and up to $10,000 per organization, plus a mandatory appearance in federal court. These areas will be patrolled as well.
Placitas Open Space is currently closed to the public because of extreme fire danger.
Bandelier National Monument has reopened: back-country access, camping, and the Alcove House Trail will remain closed.
The Village of Jemez Springs, as well as Walatowa Visitor Center at the Jemez Pueblo is opened to visitors. The Red Rock Trails at Jemez Pueblo are also open, please see Walatowa Visitor Center for access. Ponderosa Winery is open as well.
Update: 5/19/2022: Santa Fe National Forest has announced a forest-wide closure order at 8am, Thursday, May 19, 2022, prohibiting public access across the entire forest due to active wildfires and extreme fire danger. This closure will remain in effect until 12/31/2022 unless it is rescinded earlier.
CLOSURES: Bandelier National Monument, Valles Caldera National Preserve, Cibola National Forest, Santa Fe National Forest, Fenton Lake State Park.
Due to the Cerro Pelado Fire, most of Highway 4, The Jemez Mountain Trail National Scenic Byway is closed to through traffic.
