Beginning January 4 and continuing through January 30, the Placitas Community Library Art Committee will host its fourth annual “Legacy Artist Exhibition” featuring Placitas residents Bunny and Leland Bowen.
For over fifty years, the Bowens have been collaborating to create art. They began in 1970 as they learned basic metal smithing, casting, and stone-setting in a family jewelry business. Bunny did most of the design while Leland did the engineering. Later Leland used his engineering skills to supervise a casting workshop and learn welding. He fabricated steel sculptures that his wife designed.
Bunny began to show her batiks in galleries and art shows. She taught fiber art at Ghost Ranch and was part owner of The Piñon Tree Gallery and later a member of Amapola Artist Co-op, both in Old Town Albuquerque. Galleries in Texas, Arizona, Colorado, and the East Coast also featured their work.
Locally both have participated in the Placitas Holiday Show and the Placitas Studio Tour, as well as Art in the Mountain and Placitas Artists Series exhibits. They are founding members of Wild Hearts Gallery where they continue to show their work.
Many of the works in the Gracie Lee Community Room exhibition will be available for purchase and a percentage of sales will benefit the library. The community is invited to attend a reception for the artists on Sunday, January 12 between 1:00 and 3:00 pm.
