Glass Inspirations: Fused and Stained-Glass Exhibit

Lisa Chernoff and Nancy & Jon Couch
Exhibition Dates: October 28 – November 30.
Artist Reception Saturday, November 8, 1-3 pm
First Sunday ARTScrawl – Meet the Artists Sunday, November 2, 10 a.m. -2 p.m.

History meets artistry at Wild Hearts Gallery in November. Nancy and Jon Couch apply centuries old techniques to create interactive glass art. Lisa Chernoff works with kiln fused glass, an ancient technique revived in the 1960s when glass kilns found their way into independent artist’s studios. Both methods present traditional techniques with contemporary imagery to inspire the viewer and grace the modern home.

An explorer and experimenter in kiln fused glass, Lisa Chernoff is inspired by the colors, texture, form and movement found in nature. Through the bold use of these design elements in nature and strategic layering of the glass, she evokes feelings of serenity and curiosity through a sense of flowing movement, deep subtle layering and balanced asymmetry. Studio flow enhances her own comfort and peace of mind, during these unsettling times. What a gift!

“Working in fused glass never ceases to withhold its element of surprise!”

Nancy and Jon Couch’s glass journey began in the eighties when they discovered the brilliant rainbows that are the result of the sun shining through water in their unique Water Prisms. They now sell Water Prisms world-wide. During the four decades since, the Couch’s’ have added more “Gifts of Light” including windows, jewelry boxes, pyramid lamps, sun catchers, mirrors and ornaments to their glass art. Their stained-glass windows are often custom pieces, both for homeowners and local churches.

The Water Prisms are meant to interact with and enlighten the viewer. Where rainbows overlap the colors are changed. Our window designs are very colorful and evoke a strong feeling of New Mexico.”

During First Sunday ARTScrawl, November 2, meet the artists – learn about the evolution of the Couch’s art glass (10:30-11:45) and Chernoff’s plate making process (noon-1:30). The artist’s reception will be celebrated with fellowship and refreshments on Saturday, November 8, 1-3 p.m.
