Placitas Community Library Art Committee – Raining Cats & Dogs
The idiom “raining cats and dogs” typically refers to a fierce rain, characterized by buckets of water pouring down. This colorful, old-fashioned phrase may have come from the Greek expression cata doxa, which means “contrary to experience or belief.” It is certainly beyond belief to conjure thousands of our furry friends falling like raindrops from the sky. On the other hand, it is fun to imagine what that might look like.
For the July/August exhibit in the Placitas Community Library’s Gracie Lee Community Room, artists from Placitas and environs were challenged to create images and objects, either realistic or fanciful, that include cats and/or dogs. Over a dozen artists responded through a variety of media including jewelry, sculpture, fiber, photography, paintings, and collage.
The community is invited to paws and visit this exhibition from July 19 through August 14 and to attend the artists’ reception on Friday, August 1 from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm. All work will be available for purchase with a percentage of sales benefiting the library.
